We're planning to upgrade our environment from SQL 2008 to 2012. In one of our servers we have 2 instances of SQL 2008 Standard.

It is a VM that has 4 CPU cores allocated to it.

When we calculate the License cost for this server, do we need a license to 8 cores - Standard, or just 4 cores, as it's only one server?
