Two questions:
The way I interpret the lifecycle page, for example SQL Server 2008 R2 (http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/default.aspx?LN=en-us&x=5&y=13&p1=14917), when a Service Pack comes out, the previous Service Pack will lose all support, including
extended support (security patches), within a year. So right now SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 has no more support b/c SP2 came out more than a year ago? That's correct? So when SP3 comes out (which is apparently planned), SP2 will lose all support within the year?
The second question I have is: Once a service pack comes out, the core product (in this case SQL Server 2008 R2), also loses extended support correct? So I couldn't just ignore the Service Packs and keep getting all the latest security updates, correct? And if that's correct, does that extended support end 1 year after the first service pack comes out?
Thanks,
