"Could Not Find Database Engine Startup Handle" error during installation

I'm installing SQL Express sp2 x64  (version 11.0.5058.0) that I downloaded, onto Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.  Server hardware is IBM HS22 with dual Xeon 2.8GHZ and 4GB of ram.    When installing, I'm logged into the server as a domain account that is a member of Domain Admins, which is in turn a member of the local Administrators group on this server.

After the error appears it goes through some finishing up stuff then shows Failed on both Database Engine Services and SQL Server Replication, with error code 0x851A0019 for both.

I followed all steps in Shanky's article at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/24364.sql-server-troubleshooting-could-not-find-database-engine-startup-handle-error-during-installation.aspx  including cleaning up, rebooting, using NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM  for the Database Engine, etc.   but it did not help.   This is a first time install of Express on a brand new 2012 R2 server, so there were not any existing instances or anything.

If you want me to post logs, pls tell me which one(s).  And is there identifying servername, domain, or IP info in them?    If so I'll want to scrub that before I post the log.
